Fixed: Meta/Oculus Quest 2 Home Button Not Working

What will you do if you are just done playing and want to shut down the headset but realized that the home/oculus button of the controller is not working?

This is what exactly happened to me last week, I immediately called my cousin who used to work as a software engineer in Meta and explained to him what exactly happened.

The reason behind Oculus Quest 2 Home Button Not Working:

  • Battery of the Controller is Dead
  • Controller is broken
  • Controller has been unpaired
  • Game not Responding
  • System Crash/Lag in the Headset

Oculus Quest 2 controller has a lot issues, sometimes the left controller is not working, and sometimes the right controller not working. There are a lot of fixes for each of that problems.

If your Meta Quest 2 menu not showing, that is also part of the controller issue and can be fixed by following some steps I am gonna explain below.

How to Fix Meta Quest 2 Home/Oculus Button Not Working

The same thing happened to me and I got stuck in passthrough mode. But, when I hold down the Oculus button, it still shows the icon and resets my view. Then I realized that the issue is related to software.

Follow these processes below to make your controller Oculus/Home button work again.

  • While you’re stuck, tap the power button continuously and make the headset go to sleep mode.
  • Immediately remove/replace the battery from the controller and put it back.
  • Unpair and re-pair the controllers from the App
  • Disable the “long press for the menu” option from the Oculus Controller Setting if it is enabled

Why is my Home Button On Oculus Quest 2 Controller Not Working?

There are 6 explanations for why your home button on Quest 2 controller is not working.

According to a Meta Engineer, Lag in the Game, Pairing Failed, Controller Software Issues, Hardware Malfunction, Battery Life, and Broken Home Button can be the home button on your quest 2 controller not working.

If your home button is still not working after trying all of these solutions, contact Oculus support for further assistance.

Lag In the Game: One of the most common causes for a non-working Home button is lag in the game. If your headset is lagging or stuttering, it can cause your Home button to become unresponsive. Check that your connection is stable and make sure you are playing on an appropriate platform with minimal latency.

Pairing Failed: Maybe somehow your Headset has been unpaired from the controller, leading to a non-functioning home button. To ensure that the controller is properly paired, go to your settings and select the “pair new controllers” option. This should help you get your Home button working again.

Controller Software Issue: Another potential issue could be related to the controller’s software. Make sure that your Oculus Quest 2 controller is updated to the latest version, as this can help resolve any issues with the Home button. You can check for updates in the Settings menu of the Oculus app on your mobile device.

Hardware Malfunction: In rare cases, a hardware malfunction may be causing your Home button to be unresponsive. If you have tried all the above steps and your Home button is still not working, it may be necessary to contact Oculus support or take your headset in for repairs.

Battery Life: Low battery life can also lead to a non-working Home button on the Oculus Quest 2 controller. Make sure that your controllers are fully charged before you attempt to use them.

This problem has two solutions, charge the battery or replace the battery.

You can also try replacing the batteries in your controller to see if that helps with the issue. But there may be some moments, when your controller may not work after replacing battery.

Broken Home Button: If none of the above solutions work, it is possible that the Home button itself is broken.

You may need to get a replacement controller or have your current one repaired in order to fix this issue. Contact Oculus support for further assistance if necessary.
