2 days ago I was playing Beat Saber and noticed my left controller not working and the reason battery was dead.
So, as usual, I replaced the battery with a new one but the controller was not working, I was so frustrated that I was about to order a new one after trying many things to solve the problem.
I saw a similar issue being addressed on Oculus Forum and tried their suggestion but it didn’t work either.
But luckily my elder sister works in Meta as an engineer suggested me some fixes which end up working for me. She said maybe I have done some damage to my controller while removing the battery or the battery connector is somehow blocking the new battery to boot up the controller.
Reason behind the controller not turning on:
- Battery Connector have Corrosion
- Faulty & Old Battery
- Battery has been inserted in the wrong way.
- Controller is damaged
If you’ve also recently replaced the battery in your Meta Quest 2 headset controller, only to find that the controller isn’t turning on, then follow the way I fixed mine.
In your case, you may face right controller not working, which is very common to have as both the controller carry batteries.
FIX: Oculus Quest 2 Battery Replaced but Controller Won’t Power Up
The problem is with the controller as a new battery has never been reported dead. To check the battery, insert it into another device.
- Scratch both battery connectors with Screwdriver
- Clean the connector after that
- Re-insert the battery
- Rotate the battery 4-6 times
- Tap the buttons continuously for 20 seconds
- Reconnect both the controller
If you see there is nothing happening, maybe the controller has broken or the battery connection is damaged. If the battery connection is broken, it will lead to the power in the battery not reaching the controller itself, thus the controller will not wake up.

How long will the Oculus Quest 2 controller battery life be?
The Oculus Quest 2 controller battery life will vary depending on the type of batteries used and the amount of use. Generally speaking, high-quality rechargeable AAA batteries should offer several hours of gameplay.
However, if you are playing intensively for long periods, then the battery life may be reduced to around two or three hours.
How long Should I Charge the Oculus Quest 2 Controllers?
The recommended charging time for the Meta Quest 2 controllers is two to three hours. It is best to charge them overnight or at least when you are not actively using them, as this will help ensure they stay charged longer.
Additionally, it is important to make sure that your controller batteries are kept cool while charging and storing as this can help prolong their life. Charging them in a cool area is recommended. Finally, it is also important to avoid overcharging the controllers as this can lead to battery damage and reduce their life expectancy.
Can I Use other batteries in the Oculus Quest 2?
Yes, you can use other types of batteries in the Meta Quest 2 controllers, however, we strongly recommend using high-quality rechargeable AAA batteries as these will offer the best performance and battery life.
Using other types of batteries may result in a shorter lifespan and poorer performance.
What type of battery should I ignore for the Oculus Quest 2 Controller?
It is not recommended to use alkaline or any other type of non-rechargeable batteries as they may cause damage to the controller over time and potentially reduce its lifespan. It’s best to stick with rechargeable AAA batteries for optimal performance and battery life.
Additionally, be sure to always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when inserting or replacing your batteries. Doing so will ensure that you get the best performance and battery life out of your Quest 2 Controller.
What other tips should I follow to maximize my controller’s battery life?
There are several tips you can follow to help maximize the battery life of your Meta Quest 2 controller: keep it away from extreme temperatures, turn off the controller when not in use, and avoid using it while it is charging as this can cause excessive wear and tear.
Additionally, you should clean the contacts of your controller at least once a month to prevent the build-up of dust and dirt that can reduce its performance.
Lastly, be sure to replace batteries regularly with either rechargeable or high-quality AAA batteries for the best performance. Following these tips will help ensure that your Meta Quest 2 controller stays in tip-top shape and you get the most out of it.
