On 22 February 2023, Sony will launch its much-anticipated VR headset PSVR 2 also known as PS5’s biggest accessory and it’s gonna cost you around $550.

However, pre-orders have been running since 15 November.
Despite being flooded with advanced technology, PSVR 2 headset is much more lightweight.
One of the major disadvantages of PSVR 2 is it’s not a standalone VR headset like Meta quest 2 or pro.
This means you will need to pair this headset with Playstation 5 to use it.
Additionally, Sony has announced that PSVR 2 will not be backwards compatible with PSVR games.
Several VR nerds are grappling with this dilemma, and if you’re one of them, should you wait for PSVR 2, try another VR headset, or wait for quest 3?

PSVR 2 is the successor to PSVR, and it builds on the original headset with some significant improvements.

The original PSVR had a resolution of 960 x 1080 pixels per eye, which was decent for its time but didn’t offer the same level of immersion as quest 2.
The new PSVR 2 has a resolution of 2,000 x 2,040 (4.1MP) per eye, which is a significant upgrade.
Additionally, the field of view has been increased from 100 degrees to 110 degrees.
The images in psvr 2 will look 4 times sharper.
This time PSVR 2 comes with Fresnel lenses which are thinner at the edges and thicker in the middle. This makes them lighter and easier to handle than conventional lenses.
It comes with onboard cameras that enable ‘inside-out’ tracking, which means the headset tracks the player’s head movements.
Now you don’t need to rely on ps4 cameras like PSVR 1.
Additionally, the new controllers are more ergonomic and feature haptic feedback, which allows you to feel vibrations in your hands as you interact with virtual objects.
The controllers also feature built-in sensors that track your movement, so you don’t need to hold them in front of your face as you did with the original PSVR controllers.
PSVR 2 has also eye-tracking just like meta quest pro but the technology sony uses in their headset goes far beyond just foveated rendering.
This technology can’t be used right now since many VR games haven’t adopted it yet.
Lastly, the new PSVR 2 includes pass-through view features that let users configure the headset’s playspace boundary.
PSVR 2 Backward Compatibility
PSVR 2 is not compatible with PSVR games and of course, it does make sense, and a little heart-breaking though.
This is the next-gen headset a lot more upgraded than PSVR, and as I said the tracking is totally reversed so they would have to be completely reworked on their games.
On the one hand, PSVR 2 has sense controllers which have been made to deliver a pretty realistic experience when playing the games.
So it’s not gonna work or be impossible for the user to feel everything in a whole new way.
But nothing to worry about here since the developers are working to come out with all sequels of the most popular PSVR games like Blood & Truth, Resident Evil, Rush of blood, Iron man VR and more are on the way.

Should you wait or It’s Best To Pre-order PSVR 2 Right Now?
PSVR 2 is already worth pre-ordering despite its major flaws and difficult price point. Because it’s gonna change the VR world within a moment of the pinch.
As compared to current headsets such as Oculus quest 2, HTC valve, PSVR, and even Meta quest pro, PSVR 2 games will have far better graphics and a more realistic vibe.
Sticking with PSVR is not an ideal option, Opting out of MetaQuest Pro is the worst decision you will ever make (only if you intend to use this for games rather than productivity tasks).
While PSVR 2 and quest 3 will cost roughly the same, it isn’t the best decision to wait until October for meta quest 3.
You should get the next-gen PSVR 2 right now instead of waiting for quest 3 because you will be able to enjoy the whole immersive VR world in a new improved way, and this is the right decision you should make.
You can also try the Oculus Quest 2 headsets. Currently, it’s one of the best VR headsets on the market, but in the future PSVR 2 is going to surpass and beat it in every possible way.
So you can also purchase this one, play oculus games and wait until PSVR 2 releases.
Then wait to see the critic’s and user reviews first before making any purchases, which should be better for your peace of mind.
However, the hype may create a situation like when the PS5 launched, which resulted in a “stock out” across the entire market.
