Oculus Keeps Turning Off Itself – How To Fix?

My hormone is climbing up, I have reached my desired levels and moments, trying to be a flashy hero among friends but then something happens.

My quest 2 headset got turned 0ff!

I turned it on and starts playing again but things start getting out of my hand, Meta quest headset keep crashing and turning off a few times.

Afterwards, I spoke with the professional on my team and they explained:

Unlike other headsets, meta quest’s internal system is a little bit different. When the OS starts updating automatically, sometimes the process causes system errors instead of having a smooth transition, resulting in oculus turning off without warning.

So you can fix this turning-off issue in 3 ways:

  • Update your oculus software
  • Disable auto-wake feature
  • Disable guardian feature

Why Does my Oculus Quest 2 Keep Turning Off?

Oculus quest 2 has a feature called auto-wake which will turn off your headset after a period of inactivity. If this auto-wake setting is enabled, simply turning it off should prevent the device from randomly turning off.

Next, you need to make sure that your Oculus Quest 2 is receiving enough power. Make sure your headset is plugged into a working outlet, or if you are using USB 3.0 on your computer, check that it has enough power for Oculus Quest 2 to operate without being shut down.

In addition, you should check your Oculus Guardian set. When you are outside of your boundary or play area, this feature alerts you. If this alert appears too often, your device will turn off due to inactivity. If this happens, you should disable the Oculus Guardian.

Keep an eye on the battery level of your headset while you are using it to prevent this from happening.

If you’re using your oculus quest 2 while charging, this is definitely harming the battery life and i recommend stop doing so.

Furthermore, if your battery drains quickly even when fully charged, replace it with an OEM battery.

Disable Oculus Guardian Feature

  • Turn on your quest 2 and got to setting
  • Press on the ‘More Settings > Advanced Settings
  • Select “Enable Developer Mode
  • Now from the Developer Options menu, switch off ‘Guardian’

Why is My Quest Headset Not Charging?

You can experience the annoying situation of your Oculus not charging for a number of reasons, including faulty cables or ports, low batteries, and the non-compatibility of power sources.

Faulty Cables & Ports: There is a possibility that your headset’s original cables have become defective because of wear and tear. A faulty cable or port can also result in the headset not charging despite using the correct power source.

Low Batteries: A headset with an Oculus battery needs to be recharged frequently, usually every 2 to 3 hours if it hasn’t been used for an extended period of time without being recharged.

Incompatible Power Sources: In order to ensure that your Oculus headset will charge, ensure that you are using a power source compatible with the headset. The power source should have at least 5 volts/2 amps.

How to Stop Oculus Quest From Turning off During Streaming

While streaming content with the Oculus Quest is a great experience, the Oculus Quest can sometimes have issues staying powered on.

Here are some tips and tricks to resolve these issues:

Before you begin any streaming session, be sure your Oculus Quest is fully charged. Ensure that your Oculus Quest is connected to a reliable power source and that you have plenty of space around the cable so that it doesn’t run out of power midway.

Prior to streaming on Oculus Quest, make sure all other applications are closed, and avoid using any additional accessories such as headphones or controllers.

Streaming from a PC requires a reliable connection with fast bandwidth. Weak bandwidth can cause the quest 2 headset to lose its connection and shut off while streaming.

Also, simply switch off the Auto Sleep timer from the Oculus Home settings. This will prevent the Oculus Quest from turning off after a few minutes of inactivity.
